Professional Attributes of a Waiter

Professional attributes are equally important as personal attributes. The reason is that the professional attributes directly influence the work of a waiter. Following are some of the professional attributes;

1. Good Conduct - all the waiting staff should be well mannered towards the guests and to the senior staff. They should be at the utmost professional behavior all the times. They should be calm and pleasant even at the stressful situations. Tact and honesty are the two important characters must for the waiting staff.

2. Salesmanship - since waiters are considered as the technical sales persons, they should know all the technicalities of the job. proper method of service, presentation and accompaniments and preparation methods of the food and beverages in the menu.

3. Good memory - A waiter with a good memory draws attention of the guests and the senior staff. Good memory helps to remember the favorite dishes or drinks of a particular guest, last time a particular guest come to the organization etc would definitely an added advantage to a waiter.

4. Job skill - it one of the most important skill that a waiter should possess. A highly skilled waiter surely will attract the attention of the people around.
5. Concentration - concentration will help a waiter to perform the job in a better way. Lack of concentration will lead to forgetting the orders, or time of the pick up of a dish, which will lead to guest dissatisfaction.

6. Responsibility - responsibility is another character that a waiter should have, because a waiter often deals with alcoholic beverages and also with lot of money. Irresponsibility may lead to pilferage and theft
